We conclude our 100 Days, 100 Classes journey with the Miller City High School graduating class of 2024. In the first four-plus months of 2024 the world has witnessed the following: Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs win Super Bowl LVIII in overtime against the San Francisco 49ers on February 11. On the first day of March, Iowa's Caitlin Clark breaks the all-time NCAA Division I college basketball career scoring record with 3,686 points as she passes LSU's Pete Maravich. In the early hours of March 26 in Baltimore harbor, the Francis Scott Key Bridge partially collapses after a large and disabled cargo ship collides with it. A total solar eclipse occurs on the afternoon of April 8 across the central and northeast portions of the United States. In Ohio, the totality begins at 3:10pm and lasts for just over three minutes. That night in Phoeniz, Arizona the Connecticut Huskies claim back-to-back national titles as they vanquish the Purdue Boilermakers in the men's national championship game. This evening at 7pm, 41 seniors will collect their diplomas and say goodbye to Miller City High School thereby becoming MCHS's 100th graduating class. Congratulations to our graduating Millstream seniors Anthony Cellar and Rylie Peck. Both seniors were awarded their Senior Passports at yesterday's Millstream's year-end awards assembly. Anthony graduated from the Welding program and Rylie graduated from the Cosmetology program. Additionally, Rylie was awarded Millstream's Cosmetology scholarship. Congratulations, Anthony and Rylie!

We continue our 100 Days, 100 Classes journey with the Miller City High School graduating class of 2023. In 2023 the world witnesses the following: From January 28 to February 4, a high-altitude balloon originating from China flies across American airspace before being shot down by the U.S. Air Force. A Norfolk Southern train carrying hazardous materials derails near the tiny village of East Palestine, Ohio on the evening of February 3. Due to the toxins released into the air residents within a 1-mile radius are evacuated. On February 7, Los Angeles Laker LeBron James breaks Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s all-time NBA scoring record as he totals his 38,388th career point. On April 2, the LSU Tigers defeat the Iowa Hawkeyes 102-85 to win the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship. The championship game, featuring LSU’s Angel Reese and Iowa’s Caitlin Clark, is television’s highest-rated women’s basketball game of all time. 30 Miller City High School seniors receive their diplomas on May 19. In June, Canadian wildfires originating from the Quebec province cause air quality to deteriorate in the Northeast United States as well as in parts of the Upper Midwest. That same month, an underwater submersible called Titan goes missing during a dive to visit the underwater wreckage of the RMS Titanic. Four days later, a portion of the vessel’s hull is found by search team members, confirming the loss of Titan and the deaths of its five passengers. Christopher Nolan’s latest blockbuster Oppenheimer, a biographical film about the man who developed the atomic bomb, is released in theaters on July 21. That same day, comedy movie Barbie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling also premieres in U.S. theaters. Tomorrow 100 Days, 100 Classes concludes its celebration with the Class of 2024.

On February 13, the Los Angeles Rams win the Super Bowl on their home field at SoFi Stadium against Joe Burrow’s Cincinnati Bengals in a thrilling 23-20 game. Eleven days later, Russian forces invade neighbor country Ukraine, setting off a drawn-out military conflict between the two nations. On May 20 in Miller City, Ohio, 35 seniors graduate from Miller City High School. After a 70-year reign as England’s monarch, Queen Elizabeth II passes away at the age of 96 on September 8. Qatar plays host to the 2022 World Cup from November 20 through December 18. The American team loses to the Netherlands 3-1 in the Round of 1. Argentina and star Lionel Messi win the Cup on penalty kicks in a thrilling final match victory over France. Tomorrow 100 Days, 100 Classes celebrates the Class of 2023.

In 2021 the world witnesses the following: On January 6 in the nation’s capital, supporters of President Trump storm the U.S. Capitol building in an effort to prevent Congress from certifying the results of the 2020 presidential election. On January 7, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk officially becomes the world’s richest person with a net worth of over $185 billion, surpassing Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. NASA’s newest space rover Perseverance touches down on Mars on February 18 after its seven-month, 292.5 million-mile journey. Miller City High School graduates 36 seniors on May 21. Just before dawn on July 8 in Surfside, Florida a 12-story condominium building partially collapses, killing 98 people. From July 23 through August 8, the United States competes in the Summer Olympics in Tokyo. The two-week event takes place a year after its original timeframe due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The American team wins 39 gold medals and 113 overall medals. Category 4 Hurricane Ida makes landfall on the Gulf Coast on August 29. With winds as high as 150 mph, the deadly storm claims the lives of more than 30 people. Web-based word game “Wordle” is released in October. We continue our 100 Days, 100 Classes journey with the Miller City High School graduating class of 2020. In 2020 the world witnesses the following: On January 9, the World Health Organization announces that a cluster of mysterious pneumonia-like cases in Wuhan, China in late 2019 may have been caused by a previously unidentified coronavirus. By mid-February, the new virus receives its own official name: COVID-19. On March 11, the WHO officially declares COVID-19 as a pandemic. In Ohio the following day, Governor Mike DeWine announces all K-12 schools will close “for a period of three weeks.” President Trump officially declares a national emergency due to the virus’s rapid spread on March 13. In the world of sports, everything seems to stop as the college basketball postseason tournament “March Madness” is cancelled and Major League Baseball spring training immediately comes to a halt due to the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19. The NBA, NHL and MLS all suspend their seasons. Ohio high school spring sports and events are cancelled as well. Ohio schools remain closed through the end of the scheduled school year as educators and students alike utilize remote learning tools to finish out the year. On June 19, nearly a month after its originally scheduled date, the commencement ceremony at Miller City High School is held as 31 MCHS seniors graduate. On November 3, Democratic challenger Joe Biden defeats incumbent President Donald Trump to claim the presidency. Longtime Jeopardy host Alex Trebek succumbs to pancreatic cancer at 80 years old on November 8. On December 11, the FDA grants emergency authorization of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. Shipping immediately follows with the first vaccines administered on December 14. Tomorrow 100 Days, 100 Classes celebrates the Class of 2021.

In 2019 the world witnesses the following: In Paris, France on April 15 much of the world watches in horror as a catastrophic fire rages at iconic cathedral Notre Dame. The fire destroys the spire and much of the roof of the 850-year old cathedral. On April 26, the final movie in the Marvel superhero series is released as the highly-anticipated Avengers: Endgame premieres in U.S. theaters. On May 6, the HBO historical drama miniseries “Chernobyl” airs its first episode. 33 seniors receive their Miller City High School diplomas on May 17. In November, two more streaming television “networks” debut as Apple TV+ and Disney+ become available. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the final movie in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, is released in theaters on December 16. Tomorrow 100 Days, 100 Classes celebrates the Class of 2020.

The UMBC Retrievers make history by becoming the first #16-seed to defeat a #1-seed as they upset the Virginia Cavaliers in the opening round of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament on March 16. In Miller City, Ohio on May 18, 40 seniors graduate from Miller City High School. On June 11, President Trump meets with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore, marking the first face-to-face meeting between leaders of the two countries. Four days later, Pixar releases The Incredibles 2 in theaters nationwide. In November Bohemian Rhapsody, the biographical film about rock band Queen, premieres in U.S. theaters.
