We continue our 100 Days, 100 Classes journey with the Miller City High School graduating class of 1968. In 1968 the world witnesses the following: Musician Johnny Cash records a live album at California’s Folsom State Prison on January 13. On February 11 Madison Square Garden opens in New York City. A week later, NET (PBS) televises the first episode of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. On March 31 President Lyndon B. Johnson surprisingly announces he will not seek re-election in November’s general election. On April 2, the film 2001: A Space Odyssey premieres in Washington, D.C. On April 4, Martin Luther King, Jr. is assassinated outside his hotel room in Memphis, Tennessee. 39 seniors graduate from Miller City High School on May 24. On the evening of June 5, leading Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy is shot in the kitchen of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles just seconds after giving his California primary victory speech. He would pass away the following morning. The primetime news show 60 Minutes debuts on CBS on September 24. In October, the Detroit Tigers behind pitcher Denny McLain win the World Series 4 games to 3 over the St. Louis Cardinals. In the November presidential election, Republican Richard M. Nixon defeats Democratic nominee Hubert H. Humphrey. Tomorrow 100 Days, 100 Classes celebrates the Class of 1969.

We continue our 100 Days, 100 Classes journey with the Miller City High School graduating class of 1967. In 1967 the world witnesses the following: S.E. Hinton’s novel The Outsiders is published. The first Super Bowl is played in January at the Los Angeles Coliseum with Vince Lombardi’s Green Bay Packers defeating the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10. On February 2, the American Basketball Association is formed. On May 23, Miller City High School graduates its largest class to date as forty-three seniors receive their diplomas. The Beatles’ latest album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band hits #1 in the U.S. on July 1. On July 11, ABC premieres its newest game show, The Newlywed Game. In September, sketch comedy show The Carol Burnett Show premieres on CBS. Tomorrow 100 Days, 100 Classes celebrates the Class of 1968.

In 1966 the world witnesses the following: On May 3, WDHO (now WNWO) TV channel 24 in Toledo, Ohio begins broadcasting. About an hour’s drive south of Toledo just three weeks later, 37 Miller City High School seniors graduate on May 24. On September 8, the classic science-fiction show Star Trek makes its television debut on NBC. Film actor Ronald Reagan is elected Governor of California in November. Walt Disney passes away in December at the age of 65. That same month the television adaptation of Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas airs on CBS for the first time. The average price of a movie theater ticket was $1.00 and the popular children’s Christmas gift was Twister. Tomorrow 100 Days, 100 Classes celebrates the Class of 1967.

Congratulations to Isabelle R.! Her artwork was accepted in the 54th Ohio Governor's Youth Art Exhibition. There were 8,113 entires and just 319 were chosen for this exhibit. The artwork will be on display from April 21 through May 16, 8:00am - 5:00 pm weekdays only at the James A. Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus.

We continue our 100 Days, 100 Classes journey with the Miller City High School graduating class of 1965. In 1965 the world witnesses the following: A loaf of bread costs 21 cents, a dozen eggs are 53 cents and a gallon of milk costs $1.05. On March 2, famous musical film The Sound of Music premieres at the Rivoli Theater in New York City. At the Academy Awards in April, My Fair Lady takes home 8 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor. On May 25, Muhammad Ali knocks out Sonny Liston to retain the heavyweight boxing title. The following day Miller City High School graduates 37 seniors. In October in St. Louis, the 630-foot tall parabolic structure The Gateway Arch is completed. The classic car of the year is the 1965 Ford Mustang Tomorrow 100 Days, 100 Classes celebrates the Class of 1966.

In 1964 the world witnesses the following: On January 20, the first Beatles album is released in the U.S. and just ten days later their single “I Want to Hold Your Hand” becomes #1 on the charts. On March 30, game show Jeopardy! makes its television debut with Art Fleming as the host. Sandusky amusement park Cedar Point opens rollercoaster ride The Blue Streak. On May 28, NASA launches the unmanned Apollo 2 Saturn test rocket into orbit while at Miller City High School 30 seniors receive their diplomas. On July 2, President Johnson signs the Civil Rights Act, abolishing segregation in the United States. In Los Angeles on August 27, Walt Disney’s Mary Poppins makes its world premiere. In September, two television sitcoms debut: Bewitched and Gilligan’s Island. President Johnson wins the election over Republican candidate Barry Goldwater. On December 6, the stop-motion animated special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer airs for the first time on NBC. On December 27, the Cleveland Browns win the NFL Championship game over the Baltimore Colts 27-0 marking Cleveland’s last NFL crown to this day. The most popular gift for boys at Christmas is the G.I. Joe. Tomorrow 100 Days, 100 Classes celebrates the Class of 1965.

We continue our 100 Days, 100 Classes journey with the Miller City High School graduating class of 1963. In 1963 the world witnesses the following: The Beach Boys rocket to fame with their #1 Billboard single “Surfin’ U.S.A.”. Ohio native and professional golfer Jack Nicklaus wins the Masters in April, earning his first of what would be a record-high six green jackets. On May 15, the ninth and final Mercury mission launched with astronaut Gordon Cooper at the controls. Nearly two weeks later, on May 28, 33 seniors graduate from Miller City High School. On August 28, Martin Luther King delivers his famous “I Have a Dream” speech on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. In September, The Pro Football Hall of Fame opens in Canton, Ohio. On November 22, President Kennedy is assassinated in Dallas, Texas while riding in a motorcade on his way to deliver a speech. Vice-President Lyndon Johnson is sworn into office hours later making him the 36th President of the United States. Tomorrow 100 Days, 100 Classes celebrates the Class of 1964.

We continue our 100 Days, 100 Classes journey with the Miller City High School graduating class of 1962. In 1962 the world witnesses the following: On February 4, Danny Thomas founds St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Aboard Friendship 7 on February 20, Ohio native John Glenn becomes the first American to orbit Earth. In March, Philadelphia Sixers center Wilt Chamberlain scores 100 points in a single NBA basketball game. On May 25, the Isley Brothers release “Twist and Shout” and in Miller City, Ohio 19 graduates receive their diplomas at Miller City High School. At Rice University in September, President Kennedy reaffirms America’s commitment to putting a man on the moon by the end of the decade. The Jetsons premieres on ABC that same month. On October 1, Johnny Carson takes over as permanent host of NBC’s late-night The Tonight Show. Later that month and lasting for nearly two weeks, the Cuban Missile Crisis takes the world to the brink of nuclear disaster. Tomorrow 100 Days, 100 Classes celebrates the Class of 1963.

DISASTER RELIEF DRIVE Miller City-New Cleveland school will be accepting items in need for the Indian Lake Area. Items in need are: bottled water, personal care items, cleaning supplies, toilet paper/paper towels, baby items (diapers, wipes etc.) If you would like to donate any of these items, you can send it with a student or drop them off at the main entrance lobby. Collection will take place: Monday, March 18th - Wednesday, March 20th. Items will be delivered to Indian Lake School. In 1961 the world witnesses the following: On May 5, Alan Shepard becomes the first American to enter space. On May 25, President Kennedy announces the United States’ goal of putting a man on the moon before the decade is out. The following day in Miller City, Ohio, 31 seniors are awarded their high school diplomas. On October 1, Yankee Roger Maris swats his 61st home run of the season, breaking Babe Ruth’s 34-year old record. Minimum wage in 1961 is $1.15 and the top three television shows in 1961 are all Western-themed: Wagon Train, Bonanza, and Gunsmoke. Tomorrow 100 Days, 100 Classes celebrates the Class of 1962.

Miller City-New Cleveland High School is proud to present "Matilda, Jr." at 7 p.m. on Fri., Mar. 15, and Sat., Mar. 16 in the Miller City HS Cafetorium. Rebellion is nigh in Matilda JR., a gleefully witty ode to the anarchy of childhood and the power of imagination! This story of a girl who dreams of a better life and the children she inspires will have audiences rooting for the "revolting children" who are out to teach the grown-ups a lesson. Kennedy (D) participate in the first televised presidential debate. Four days later, animated sitcom The Flintstones airs its first episode on ABC. In November 1960, John F. Kennedy wins the presidential election in a narrow victory over Richard Nixon. The average cost of a gallon of gas in 1960 is 25 cents and a first-class stamp costs 4 cents. The popular children’s Christmas gifts of 1960 are an Etch-a-Sketch, Legos and Barbie doll. Tomorrow 100 Days, 100 Classes celebrates the Class of 1961.

We continue our 100 Days, 100 Classes journey with the Miller City High School graduating class of 1959. In 1959 the world witnesses the following: On January 3, Alaska becomes the 49th U.S. state. On February 3, rock n’ roll stars Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. Richardson (The Big Bopper) are killed in a plane crash outside Clear Lake, Iowa just hours after their joint concert. The tragedy is later termed as “The Day the Music Died.” Later that month the first Daytona 500 stock car race is held with Lee Petty as the winner. In April, NASA announces its selection of the “Mercury 7” original astronauts. On May 28, Miller City High School graduates 27 seniors. On August 21, Hawaii becomes the 50th and final U.S. state. Tomorrow 100 Days, 100 Classes celebrates the Class of 1960.
