💙 September is Suicide Prevention Month 💙
At Miller City-New Cleveland Local Schools, we believe that creating a school community where every student feels seen, valued, supported, and like they belong is an important part of suicide awareness and prevention.
This month, our students had the opportunity to participate in meaningful programs focused on awareness, hope, belonging, and prevention.
💙 Our high school students attended an assembly at Continental High School featuring Gaelin Elmore, who spoke about the importance of belonging and the powerful impact we can have on one another. Gaelin emphasized CARE:
C – Compassion
A – Authenticity
R – Resiliency
E – Empowerment
A special thank you to Continental High School for hosting our students and to the Putnam County ADAMHS Board, in conjunction with funding provided through the Suicide Awareness Run/Walk of Putnam County, for helping make this important experience possible.
💙 Our middle school students participated in a presentation provided by Pathways Counseling Center focused on recognizing the signs of suicide and understanding how we can support someone who may be struggling.
Both our middle and high school students also watched the Sandy Hook Promise "Say Something" video, learning the importance of speaking up when they see something concerning and knowing that saying something can make a difference.
As we recognize Suicide Prevention Month, we want our students to remember:
You matter. You belong. Your voice matters. And you are never alone. 💙
Let's continue to look out for one another, reach out, listen, and Say Something when we see something that concerns us. Together, we can help make MCNC a place where everyone feels a sense of belonging and knows they are cared for.
